Calvary Coronavirus (COVID-19) Policy Update
Dear Calvary Family,
Thank you for tuning in last Sunday in record numbers. Over 5,500 separate devices were logged-in between our two online services. While we experienced some technical difficulties, we are thankful for the reach of the Gospel with a little help from technology.
As promised, we want to continue to provide up-to-date information to our church family as it pertains to all the ministries at Calvary. Based on the current recommendations from government and health officials, we have extended the dates of our “no gathering policy” through the end of March. There will be no on-campus gatherings, including Sunday worship services, through the end of March. This includes Sunday, March 22nd and Sunday, March 29th. Both Sunday services will be available online.
This also includes all events related to our X150 Children’s Week, including Focus on the Family’s “Wait No More” event, originally scheduled for Saturday, March 28th. This emphasis and all associated events will be rescheduled at a later time.
In addition to these adjustments, we are also cancelling the church-wide Night of Worship scheduled for Palm Sunday, April 5th. Preparations for our worship nights necessitate numerous rehearsals, large gatherings of people, including children, and as such we decided it is best to cancel this event.
As I mentioned, we have made these decisions out of a desire to fully cooperate with our governing officials who are working hard to contain the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) throughout our country. We believe full cooperation is the best demonstration of our faith, our love for neighbors, and the biblical admonition to submit to governing authorities.
We will evaluate the extension of this policy further in the coming days as circumstances warrant. We are looking carefully at our April schedule including all the events scheduled for “Holy Week” and Easter Sunday (April 12th). You will be informed as soon as a decision is made regarding any other events in April, including Easter Sunday. Our team is continuing to work hard to stay fully informed so we can best protect our community and our church family. Please continue to stay informed through the update page, Calvary.us/VirusUpdate and help us share accurate information with our community and church family.
• All on-campus gatherings through the end of March
• On-campus Sunday worship – Sunday services for March 22nd and 29th remain exclusively online
• Palm Sunday, Night of Worship, April 5th
We are also taking steps to check on our senior adults and make sure we are ministering to our church family and our community during these days. During the school year, Calvary helps provide food to children at our partner public schools. We are continuing to work with school officials to ensure that children do not go hungry during this time.
If you have a specific need that your church family can help with, especially if you are considered part of a higher risk segment of society, please let us know by visiting Calvary.us/VirusUpdate. We want to serve our community and serve our church family during this crisis.
As we learned last Sunday, even though we cannot “go” to church, we “are” the church. What a divine opportunity to be the church, love our neighbors, and share the reason for the hope that is within us.
If you joined us online last Sunday, you will remember from 2 Samuel 16, that David left Jerusalem and faced an uncertain future in the wilderness. But David put his trust in God, God was faithful, and provided for him until he returned him to the throne. We can also trust God when facing uncertain days and know that while the future may seem confusing and even scary, God can be trusted to provide for us and to guide us each step.
Let’s pray and put our trust and hope in the Lord. Let’s also look for ways to love our neighbors and share with others why our hope is in Christ. God may give us great opportunities to serve Him by serving others.
Please follow all the guidelines being given by our government and health officials. Stay safe. Stay healthy. Stay hopeful. We look forward to the day when we can gather together again soon. In the meanwhile, we will endeavor to keep you informed and provide ways we can connect with each other through technology and social media.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) Policy Update, Thursday, March 12th 2020
Thursday, March 12th, 2020
As you have already (we hope) heard, all Calvary Church Campuses will be worshipping together exclusively online this weekend, Sunday, March 15th. Service times to watch online are at 9:30 am and 11:00 am. There will be no on-campus group gatherings, including Sunday worship services, through and including Wednesday, March 18th.
It is highly likely that this temporary ban for on-campus group gatherings will continue for an indefinite period of time beyond the 18th. We will bring you updated information about extensions of this policy sometime next week. Our expectation is that this will continue for several weeks. We are currently evaluating all on-campus scheduled events for the next several weeks and we will update you regarding any changes in schedules as soon as possible.
We also want to clarify the exposure risk that we mentioned in our Thursday, March 12th email.
On Wednesday evening at our Clearwater Campus, one of our members, who had direct contact two days prior with an individual who subsequently tested positive with Coronavirus (COVID-19) was on our campus and his children were in attendance at our Awana ministry. Please be informed that this family did not know at that time that they had been in contact with a person who contracted the virus. That information was revealed after Wednesday night and they informed us right away.
To clarify, to date, so far as we know, there have been no known cases of someone with the coronavirus at Calvary’s campuses, and no person with prior knowledge of contact with a known coronavirus case has attended our campus. Also, to date, none of those persons with direct contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus or their children have displayed any symptoms of illness. This family is still in the process of seeking to be tested, which as you may have heard is still very difficult at the current time. Thank you for helping us clarify any misconceptions.
If you develop symptoms, seek healthcare immediately and please keep us informed of any exposure risk that may have occurred at Calvary so we can keep every member of our community properly informed.
While we are not able to physically gather together in worship this weekend, we hope you will plan to join us for worship at either 9:30 or 11:00. We will sing together, pray together, and be encouraged from God’s word together. You can watch or listen in by any one of the following ways:
• To watch the livestream or an ASL translation, go to our Calvary.us/watch
•. To watch the Livestream on Facebook, click Calvary’s Facebook Page
•. To listen live from your phone, call 1(312) 757-3129 pin 180-150-445.
If you’ll be watching the livestream on Facebook, we encourage you to share it on your feed or if you’ll be watching on our website, consider inviting someone to join you by sending them the link. We also know of some of our community groups that are planning to gather privately in someone’s home to watch together and fellowship as a small group.
We hope very soon to provide further suggestions for small groups to gather for encouragement and fellowship if this current situation continues for any length of time.
Thank you also for continuing your financial support of Calvary through this period as we continue our ministry, including our missions and support of those in need. The easiest way to give during this time is to give online at Calvary.us/Give You can also give by mailing in your offering or dropping off your offering at the church office.
At the present time, our church office will remain open during normal business hours.
Be encouraged and do not be afraid. Remember these words from Philippians 4:4-7,
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your graciousness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. 6 Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
I hope to see you online this Sunday.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY
We would like to thank you for your continued financial support of your church family during this time. As you can imagine this situation will put financial stress on many families, many businesses and on many ministries. We want to continue to take care of our families and serve our community and prepare for a return to normal ministry programming as soon as we are able. Your continued support during this time is so very important. You can give through one of the following ways:
