First Things from Pastor Willy – December 1
Welcome to the Christmas season. This season is filled with a message of hope and love. In the coming weeks, you will not only have multiple opportunities to celebrate our Savior, but also to invite others to hear the message and discover the joy.
This weekend, our campuses are decorated for the holidays, you’ll hear the sounds of Christmas music, and I begin our Christmas series Signs of Hope: Something Wonderful is About to Happen. Christmas is a sign of hope; a message that can change everything. Who do you know that needs an invitation to attend Calvary this Christmas?
Here are some of the important dates for the holidays:
December 9 & 10 – A Night of Christmas Worship. Our worship teams gather from all three campuses to celebrate Christmas on our Clearwater campus. The worship concert begins at 7:00pm on December 9 and at 6:00pm on December 10. We are hopeful you will invite someone to come with you for this special Christmas celebration.
December 24 – Christmas Eve Services. Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday this year. We have scheduled 11 services between our three campuses and all will be Christmas Eve Candlelight services. Whether you come to the morning or afternoon services, they will all be the same. So choose the best time for you, morning or evening, and make plans to join with us on Christmas Eve. Here is the schedule of services on all three campuses:
Clearwater at 9:15am, 11:00am, 3:00pm, 5:00pm
East Lake at 9:30am, 11:00am, 3:00pm, 5:00pm
Seminole at 9:30am, 11:00am, 5:00pm
Christmas Blessings is an opportunity to bless a child, a senior, or a family in need this holiday season. We’ve worked with our community partners to identify 225 children and another 150 seniors who are in difficult circumstances. You can learn more about how you can be a Christmas Blessing at calvary.us/christmas-blessings.
As if all of that wasn’t enough, we will also be celebrating the dedication of the newly constructed Anderson Athletic Center on Tuesday, December 12. At halftime of the varsity game, Dr. Bill Anderson will be recognized and honored as we dedicate our new Anderson Athletic Center. The varsity game tips off at 7:30pm that evening. Come out to the game, see Pastor Anderson, and let’s give thanks for this wonderful new addition on our campus.
Don’t forget about our Annual Church Conference this Sunday evening, December 3rd. This is an important congregational meeting where our financial Ministry Plan for 2018 is presented as well as nominations to our standing committees. We will also hear important reports about what is happening at Calvary. It is an opportunity to ask questions, stay informed and provide input. If you have specific questions about our Financial Ministry Plan for 2018, members of our financial staff and Finance Committee will be available from 5:00 – 6:00pm to provide answers. The conference begins at 6:00pm in the Choir Room on the Clearwater campus.
Finally, in the final month of the year, please remember your local church as you consider year-end giving. Although giving is essentially level with 2016, which was a record year in giving, we have fallen short of our budget goal. December is a great opportunity to gain ground and finish strong. There are many ways to give generously and God’s word encourages us to do so. Please remember that the local church remains the greatest way to fund God’s work and expand God’s kingdom.
It’s been a terrific year at Calvary. In this final month and in this special season, may you be filled with His love and His hope as we share the good news and rejoice in the truth that unto us a Savior is born and unto us a Son is given and He is Christ the Lord.
