May is Foster Care Awareness Month!

Did you know that 8 children enter the foster care system every day in the Tampa Bay area due to abuse, abandonment, or neglect? That’s eight children per day that are removed from their homes and all that they know.

Just imagine what could happen if the church said -to all the abused, abandoned, and neglected-, “We’ll take them”. We’ll love them, clothe them, feed them, and provide a safe place for them to be.

Imagine the lives that could be changed; imagine all the children that could be told that regardless of their upbringing, there is a God who loves them more than they could ever guess and He wants a personal relationship with them.

Calvary Church is partnering with Man UP & Go to host three Foster Care Q&A’s this month.  This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about the foster care system, what its like to be a foster family, and the practical steps required to get involved.

Another way for you to get involved is to volunteer to be a camp counselor. Our partners at Man Up and Go host the Royal Family Kids Camp (July 1-6). Currently, there are 70 foster kids (ages 6-12) signed up for this Tampa-area camp, but only 50 adult counselors. Because each child is assigned a counselor (there is a mandatory 1-to-1 ratio of counselors to kids), they need 20 more counselors in order for these children to attend. This is a great way for you to serve and love on children in the foster care system. Contact Jeff Ford for more information or call 727.247.3525.

Matthew 25:40 says, “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me,’ “. Foster children are the least of these in today’s society. We have a passion for compassion in action, and we would love for you to consider fostering or come to one of these Q&A’s to get more information!
